Championing the homegrown message in sustainability


The problem

Lion is strongly committed to its core purpose of enriching our world every day by championing sociability and helping people to live well. This commitment is brought to life in its breweries, wineries, dairy and juice facilities and is reflected in the way the company produces, partners and promotes its products. BWD has worked with Lion on its sustainability reports for the past four years and for this report the challenge was to think creatively about visual treatments as there was no budget for photography.

The strategy

To create a report and accompanying sustainability communications that highlighted Lion’s contribution to the local Australian and New Zealand economies and communities, but at the same time were engaging, informative and resonated visually with the brands and products in the Lion portfolio.

The solution

We created a collage-style design using a mix of contemporary and vintage illustrative elements that complemented Lion’s brands. By combining photographic images of ingredients, paper textures and hand-drawn illustrations, we produced a ‘homegrown’ report that was friendly and easily digestible.

The success

The report and supporting collateral have had great general feedback from customers, and internally, Lion’s people have loved the design.
