Commonwealth Bank reports on its financial and non-financial performance across a range of platforms and publications each year, including an Annual Report, Corporate Responsibility Report, profit announcements and notice for the Annual General Meeting.
This year the Bank wanted to focus on articulating their investment proposition clearly through these channels and documents; and to better engage stakeholders in their strategic progress, performance and commitments to corporate responsibility.
Our brief was to design a suite of reports – both financial and non-financial –to transparently and consistently communicate strategy and performance, while balancing the needs of a broad range of stakeholders
The project had three parts:
1. Gather all reporting under one roof:
We would develop a look and feel to be applied to all the covers, page layouts and infographics across the suite – no matter their size or format. The reports would be designed in a print format and interactive PDF format for online reading
2. Simple and easy to use interface for stakeholders:
We would design and build a new Commonwealth Bank investor relations microsite, where all the reporting documents could be accessed and new reports could easily be added in the future
3. Engaging presentation of strategy and key messages:
Via a suite of infographics, strategic advice and a sense-check of content, we would help the Bank communicate the ways in which it secures and enhances financial wellbeing, its contribution to the Australian economy, its approach to corporate responsibility and highlights from the year in review.
We worked closely with the investor relations, corporate responsibility, user experience and digital teams to create a new streamlined user journey that allowed users to watch videos, scan results highlights and read reports online.
The website featured infographics capturing key statistics, a live share price feed, videos from the CEO and a library display of the reporting documents for easy download and online reading.
For the report layouts we created a clean style guide with navigational tabs, pull quotes, statistic highlights, icons for key data and case studies to break up the sections. We applied this same style across the Annual Review, Annual Report, Corporate Responsibility Report and Notice of Annual General Meeting. We also adapted it to create EDMs in the lead up to the year-end announcements.
For the covers of the reports, we commissioned a photoshoot and produced a series of images featuring shareholders interacting with the Bank in their daily lives.
